The Sweet And Sour Of OHS

June 2, 2022
This school year was a rebound from the last. Everyone was back in person after one year of the zoom classes. For the first half of the year masks were mandatory, that eventually changed to being optional for the second half of the year. There were highs and lows of this school year. Two grades completely new to being in this school. The energy for the year was more negative than it should be and many teachers said this was one of the lowest points for the school in their time at orange. Others think it was a much better year than the last. We had a few good playoff runs for some of the sports teams and the others tried their hardest but fell short. The school had free lunch for everyone which hasn’t been done in Orange County until this year. Many things improved from the year before and other things didn’t. The ability for a teacher making you exempt from a teacher-made exam was a good addition to this year. Hall pass changes closer to the end of the year that some thought were questionable. Just the rules were twisted a bit for the good and bad. And at basically the end of the year after another school shooting some students took part in a walk out.
I asked 2 students how their school year was. These are the responses I got. Garrett said, “This year was pretty good for me. I played football and baseball for the school and my grades weren’t horrible. I got to spend a lot of time with my friends and people I like to hang out with.” Josiah said, “It was an ok year, we lost in the semifinals for lacrosse and that was pretty sad. We did make some very good memories but other than that it was just another year of the same old school.”
