Mental Health Awareness Day
May 12, 2022
This week and mainly Saturday, May 14th is mental health awareness day. Awareness of your and everyone else’s mental health is incredibly important, especially with exams coming up. Many students will spend too much time focusing on school stuff and not taking any time for things they enjoy. This is why mental health awareness is so important. Plus anxiety can also be a problem around this time, which is just another reason to care about the mental health of your peers but most importantly yourself.
If you feel stressed, overwhelmed, or feel like you are under a lot of pressure you can always talk to someone. You also can always take a break. If you plan on studying for an hour take a break every 20 minutes or so to get the best results. If you study relentlessly throughout the whole hour you won’t be able to retain the information plus that will be very taxing on your brain. So it is always best to take breaks.
Also, your mental health is more important to you than other people. So if you ever find yourself caring or worrying about someone else more than yourself you need to cut back. Take care of yourself before you take care and help with other people’s problems.
The purpose of Mental Health Month is to help eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness by raising awareness of mental health conditions and those who have them. Mental Health month and mental health awareness day have been recognized in the USA since 1949. Also, 1 in every 5 Americans has a mental health condition, that is why you should never joke or talk about a mental health condition badly because the person next to you could have one.
