September 21, 2018 is now marked to be the turning point of the Orange Panther Varsity football season as they get their first win this season against East Chapel Hill.

Throughout the season it has been pretty tough to get in a winning mindset, but the panthers have stuck it through the end in order to get this win against East Chapel Hill. Panthers have been eager to keep pursuing through the season to get more wins.

Coach Smith talked about how he felt about the win and he stated, “Yeah it feels good to win, and we have been pretty successful these past years which means it’s easy to get complacent and just to expect things to happen because they always happen. You have to remember that winning is not easy, and when you’ve been winning and a conference champion for two or three years in a row, people will want to knock you off the top, so you have to keep out working them. I think our kids are figuring it out and getting back to that mindset. We certainly hope that this will be the turning point of the season, winning fixes a lot of things. We do have a lot of guys out injured so we hope to start getting those back soon and then we will see where this will go from there.”

Junior, Wyatt Jones is our new quarterback this year. He was asked how would this win, benefit them in future games and he said, “I feel like we really needed a big win before we went into the Southern and Northern Durham games. Both are very good teams and we needed to figure out what work and how we can adapt in-game to what the defense is doing. We did make mistakes in the East Chapel Hill game. We need to fix those mistakes if we want to beat these next teams.”

We hope to have a bigger outcome for upcoming games, that is if we can get our injured players back in the games. If all goes well and no one becomes injured, we might have a chance at being back on top.
